Steele and the Boogey-Man
RNC Chairman Michael Steele says that the Democrats and President Obama always have to have a …wait for it…boogey-man in their political debates.
Everytime they find themselves up against a wall on some of the policy initiatives, whether it’s the stimulus, cap-and-trade, or now health care, that they find a boogey-man. In the health care debate, they went out — we switched from we’re now focusing on health care to ‘oh, we’ve got an insurance problem, and so now we can pick on the insurance companies.’
That’s right and it came from the leader of the party that has for decades fear-mongered every issue from health care (death panels, death books, “socialized” medicine) to winning elections (terrorizing the electorate). But for just a brief moment let’s give Steele the benefit of the doubt. At least if the Democrats bring a boogey-man into the discourse it’s fact, something which he and the Republicans have absolutely no working knowledge of or desire to discover.
Seniors But No One Else?
Why does the Republican Party, and RNC Chairman Michael Steele specifically, want to give seniors a Health Care Bill of Rights but is not interested in providing anyone else with the same rights? Does that not prove pandering at its worst?
Republicans want reform that should, first, do no harm, especially to our seniors. That is why Republicans support a Seniors’ Health Care Bill of Rights, which we are introducing today, to ensure that our greatest generation will receive access to quality health care. We also believe that any health-care reform should be fully paid for, but not funded on the backs of our nation’s senior citizens.
